Photon Raiders

Laser tag. Inside SCP: Secret Laboratory. With a full Capture-the-Flag ruleset, custom weapon effects, wall-piercing beams, a respawn system, arena music, and overtime. This is Photon Raiders — a fully custom tournament gamemode built from the ground up by Aftermath.

The Gamemode

Two teams — Orange and Green — face off inside a custom laser tag arena. Each team has a flag near their spawn. The goal is to grab the enemy's flag and bring it back to your base to score a point.

A few things worth knowing about how the flag works:

  • If the carrier dies and drops the flag, a teammate can pick it up and continue
  • If the enemy recovers their own dropped flag, it teleports straight back to their base
  • If time runs out and it's a tie, the game goes into overtime — first capture wins

Rounds are 3 minutes long, with a 30 second warmup at the start before flags go live.

The Laser

Every player spawns with a single E-11 rifle — flash hider, lightweight stock, laser sight. It fires a custom laser beam that travels in a straight line, is a one-shot kill, and pierces through walls. That last part is intentional. Cover isn't a guarantee — positioning and timing matter.

The firing delay is around 2.25 seconds between shots, simulated by forcing the weapon pullout animation after each trigger pull.

Death & Respawning

Getting hit doesn't send you straight back into the game. You're placed in a death box for about 5 seconds — stuck, out of play — before respawning at your team's spawn point with 10 seconds of spawn protection. You can shoot during spawn protection, but you can't be hurt.

Arena & Round Flow

The round runs through a clean sequence:

  1. Warmup — players are live but flags aren't yet, 30 seconds to get oriented
  2. Round starts — flags spawn, teams go, timer counts down
  3. Overtime — if it's tied at zero, play continues until someone captures
  4. Result — winner announced, scores updated, arena resets

Every significant moment has its own audio cue — flag pickup, point scored, kill confirmed, round end. Each arena also supports its own background music, configurable per map.

Teams

Teams are fully config-driven. Each team has a name, a badge color, and a list of player Steam IDs. On spawn every player gets their role set, inventory rebuilt with the laser rifle, and their team rank displayed on their badge. Friendly fire is blocked automatically — the beam skips anyone on your own team.
